Oslo Panoramic Tour

  • Private tour
  • Duration: 3 h
  • Moderate walking
  • Multiple languages

Overview

Three hours are enough for the two things people come to Oslo for: the sculpture park Gustav Vigeland spent twenty years filling with human figures, and the compact centre where the parliament, the theatre and the palace stand within one street of each other.

The tour covers:

  • Vigeland Park and its 212 sculptures, including the Monolith
  • City Hall, home of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony
  • Karl Johans gate and the Royal Palace at the top of it
  • The Storting, the National Theatre and the old university buildings

Please note that the tour order and the time spent at each venue may vary.

What you will see

  • Three hours with a private guide and an air-conditioned car
  • Vigeland Park, 212 sculptures by one artist in one park
  • Karl Johans gate, from the Central Station to the Royal Palace
  • The Parliament, the National Theatre and the old university
  • City Hall, where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded each December

Itinerary

  1. Meeting by the ship

Meeting by the ship. The start time of the tour is given approximately and will be adjusted depending on your ship arrival time. The exact meeting time will be specified on your confirmation letter.

  2. Vigeland Sculpture Park

A guided walk through the Vigeland installation in Frogner Park, the life's work of Gustav Vigeland and the largest sculpture park anywhere by a single artist. Its 212 figures in bronze, granite and wrought iron were made between 1924 and 1943 and follow human life from infancy to old age. The Monolith at the top of the terraces was carved from one block of granite and carries 121 intertwined figures; the small bronze known as the Angry Boy on the bridge is the most photographed sculpture in Norway.

  3. Oslo City Hall

A stop at Oslo City Hall, the twin-towered brick building on the harbour finished in 1950 after the war interrupted its construction. The Nobel Peace Prize is presented in its main hall every 10 December, under murals by Norwegian painters including Edvard Munch. It stands a few minutes from the cruise berth.

  4. Karl Johans gate

A walk along Karl Johans gate, the main street, named after the French marshal who became king of Norway and Sweden. It runs from the Central Station to the Royal Palace of 1849 at the top of the hill, passing the Storting, the Norwegian parliament of 1866, the old university buildings and the National Theatre of 1899, with Ibsen and Bjørnson in bronze outside it.
