TOUR DESCRIPTION
The history of the Jewish community in Rhodes dates back to ancient times. In the 15th century, Sephardic Jews, exiled from Spain, settled on the island. The name of the Jewish quarter of Rhodes, La Juderia, comes from their language.
Our tour starts from the New Town – not quite famous as the Old Town, but still full of remarkable buildings and places: for instance, the Old Port with their amazing statues – “Deer” and “Reindeer” .
We will continue our tour with the Panoramic drive of the Acropolis of Rhodes Town, where you will be thrilled by the views of the East & West cost of the island!
Then we will have the walking tour of the Jewish Cemetery - one of the oldest and best preserved Jewish cemeteries in Europe.
After that, you will have a possibility to fully enjoy the picturesque ancient places of the Jewish Quarter situated in the Old Town: the foot tour includes the
- "Al Chatef" street;
- “Kahal Shalom”, the oldest synagogue in Greece;
- Jewish Museum (with an 800-year-old Torah of Rhodes)
- Square of Martyred Jews and the Holocaust Memorial.
And we are only in the middle of our journey! We will continue the driving tour to the charming village Lindos, which is 50km/32 miles to the Southeast of the island.
In Lindos you will visit the famous ceramics of Rhodes, St. Paul's Bay - Scenic (Movie of "the Guns of Navarone") and in the end you will have the walking tour of the village and marvellous Acropolis of Lindos.
After this unforgettable tour we will drive back through Faliraki and Kallithea Spa.
